Effective ways to relieve stress

Did you know that buying a house, or relocating is in the top 10 most stressful life events?

Stress of course is an unavoidable part of life and there are many reasons why people experience stress, not just buying a house!

There are lots of effective ways to manage and reduce stress. We have shared some tips to help you:

  1. Get plenty of sleep
Lack of sleep can make you more reactive and find everyday challenges difficult. Ensure you have good sleep hygiene by following a calming bedtime routine to wind down and aim for 7-9 hours of sleep a night

  2. Exercise regularly
One of the best stress relievers is physical activity. It releases endorphins, helps with sleep, and improves your confidence

  3. Talk to loved ones
Opening up and sharing what is on your mind to a friend or family member can help to reduce emotional stress

  4. Reduce caffeine and alcohol
Caffeine and alcohol can increase stress and disturb sleep. Try and go for herbal teas or water instead

  5. Practice mindfulness and deep breathing
Mindfulness and deep breathing can help you to stay in the moment and keep you grounded. There are apps available that can assist with mindfulness and breathing

  6. Go outside
Spending time in nature has proven to have a calming effect. Going for a walk, sitting by a lake, or spending time sitting in the garden can lower cortisol levels and improve your mood

  7. Take breaks
Feeling stressed and burnt out can come from pushing too hard for a long time. Taking frequent breaks during the day and saying no when needed can protect your mental state

  8. Be creative
Studies show that creative activities such as drawing, painting, and writing can be a healthy distraction and help you to process your emotions
