At Mortgage Required we are passionate about working within the community that supports us.
We have worked closely with various local charities and clubs since we opened in 2001 and have always had a chosen charity who we support each year. In 2022 we took a different approach and invited the team to support which ever charity they personally feel passionate about with our Mortgage Required Charity Challenge. See below for further information. We believe that supporting good causes benefits both the charity and the individual participating.
Over the last three years', we have raised a combined £19,120 by taking part in various events. Click here to see our Charity Challenge fundraising page.
The team at Mortgage Required and the Insurance room are back for another charity challenge!
In 2024 we raised £4,000 for a range of charities by taking part in different events and challenges.
These charities and events will be chosen by our team allowing them to pick something close to their own heart. The cost of the event will be paid for by the individual with Mortgage Required paying an additional 33 pence for every pound raised. We know charities need our support now more than ever to enable them to carry out their vital work, which is why we are very proud and excited to be continuing to support both local and national charities in 2025!
For the 5th year the team at Mortgage Required and The Insurance Room, have donated and put together Christmas bags for the Baby bank pyjama appeal. This amazing charity distributes gifts to families in and around Maidenhead ensuring children get a new pair of Pyjamas and other gifts at Christmas. Louise Bixby Manager of The Insurance Room who organised and collected the bags commented “It is unimaginable to think that some children won’t get a gift at Christmas, we all wanted to help in a small way at this special time of year”.
For the past few months our team have been helping out at Maidenhead Food Bank. Each week three members of the MR team offer their services helping in the warehouse, shop or café.
Tim Atkinson Mortgages Required’s Managing Director commented “The team at the foodbank really are amazing people who dedicate their time free of charge to this essential service. We have all enjoyed helping and meeting both the volunteers and customers".
We were delighted to sponsor the annual three way bowls tournament between Maidenhead Town, Maidenhead Thicket and Desborough Bowling clubs. Despite it being the hottest day of the year competition was fierce with the home team eventually taking the victory. Members of the Mortgage Required Team were on hand to hand out the cup and run the Raffle which raised £200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mortgage Required are proud player sponsors this season of Maidenhead United Women FC who play in the FA Women’s National League South, which is Tier 4 of women’s football.
On the 18th of July five of the team from Mortgage Required and The Insurance Room took part in the Classic Tough Mudder. Despite it being one of the hottest days of 2021 with temperatures around 30 degrees all completed the course raising valuable funds for their chosen charities. The event was originally part of the 2020 Mortgage Required Charity Challenge, following its cancelation that year the team were determined to enter the event as soon as it was possible and were as good as their word. The event is a real challenge covering 10 miles with 25 energy sapping obstacles to overcome on the way. An awesome effort by all involved.
On Sunday 16th May a team of 8 girls from Mortgage Required embarked on a 14 mile trek round the Berkshire countryside to raise money for Breast Cancer. The actual event was cancelled due to COVID so participants were asked to organise their own route. So (thanks to Jade), we were able to complete the event and raise over £1,500 for the charity. Here is the "before" photograph, unfortunately the weather was not kind to us and the "after" photo is therefore not fit for public consumption! Click here to view or donate to our fundraising page.
For all of us the pandemic has been tough, without exception everyone has had to face and overcome personal challenges. Despite this there have been some amazing people who have not only faced their own challenges but have taken it upon themselves to try and help others.
At Mortgage Required we wanted to recognize these amazing people in our community with The Mortgage Required Lockdown Hero Awards. The awards which ran over February and March of 2021 invited everyone in the area the opportunity to vote for their super hero allowing us to thank them on their behalf with a selection of gifts including Fortnum and Mason Hampers and floral displays from Marks and Spencer. Whilst not surprised we were blown away by the nominees and the selfless acts they had achieved through lockdown making everyone’s world that little bit brighter. At the start of 2020 The entire team at Mortgage Required made a commitment to raise money for charity by entering a sponsored event.
The charity and event was their choice allowing the team to pick something close to their own heart. The cost of the event was paid for by the individual with Mortgage Required kicking of the sponsorship with a £75 donation for each event. Sadly as a result of Covid-19 all the events have now been cancelled. Despite the events not going ahead and understanding how hard this year has been for charities we have honoured our commitment to pay £75 for each employee to their chosen charity with a further £500 donated to Cancer research. Additionally in recognition of the incredible work the NHS has done this year we have made a further £850 donation to Wexham Park hospital our local NHS trust.
We hope pandemic allowing to kick 2022 in a really positive way with the launch of the Mortgage Required 2022 charity challenge with the aim of raising £10,000 for charity.
We are delighted to have teamed up with Desborough Bowling club who recently moved to their fantastic new £5M state of the art facility in Maidenhead. We were due to sponsor the “Mortgage Required Trophy” in 2020 which was an exciting competition between clubs in the area. Unfortunately due to the pandemic the event had to be cancelled. Whilst we were all disappointed the event could not take place we have made a commitment to continue our sponsorship and help with the event as soon as restrictions allow. We look forward to working with the club in the future helping to promote the facility as well as being on hand for any mortgage advice their members may need. Hopefully in return their members will teach our team how to play bowls.

The support we received as we passed through London & Surrey was amazing, with towns getting in the party spirit and encouraging everyone on. Despite the aching limbs, we are delighted to have competed and to have raised £1200 for our chosen charity Alzheimer Dementia Support.
